Artika Horizon: A New Dimension in Timekeeping

Albert Rakhimzhanov's Innovative Wristwatch Design Wins Silver A' Design Award

Albert Rakhimzhanov's Artika Horizon wristwatch, inspired by the event horizon of a Black Hole, redefines conventional timekeeping accessories. This innovative design, which won the Silver A' Design Award, offers a unique blend of simplicity, sophistication, and functionality.

The Artika Horizon wristwatch, designed by Albert Rakhimzhanov, is a testament to the power of innovative design. The watch, which can be worn on the wrist, around the neck, or as a stopwatch in a pocket, is a unique take on traditional timekeeping accessories. Its design, inspired by the event horizon of a Black Hole, reflects the idea of space bending under the influence of large forces. The cord on the watch strap symbolizes this concept, creating a unique aesthetic that sets the Artika Horizon apart from other wristwatches.

Rakhimzhanov's design is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical. The construction of the Horizon watch is simpler and more reliable than conventional straps, with literally nothing to break. The watch is put on the hand and pulled together with a special clip, which also allows it to be worn as a pendant accessory. This versatility adds to the appeal of the Artika Horizon, making it a desirable accessory for those seeking a unique blend of style and functionality.

The Artika Horizon was developed using the dimensions of a real quartz movement. The body material is metal, and the production technologies assumed are additive manufacturing or CNC milling. This approach is justified by the small circulation and the complexity of the design. The watch has a diameter of 43 mm and a depth of 9 mm, making it a compact and convenient accessory.

The Artika Horizon project began in September 2019 in St. Petersburg and was completed in January 2020. It started as part of a master's project and is part of a collaboration with the Barcelona-based design studio Anima. The task was to develop a wristwatch concept for the Artika brand that reflects the brand's philosophy and integrates the theme of space and time.

The design of the Artika Horizon faced many challenges, including the need to match the brand and integrate another global theme. Despite these challenges, Rakhimzhanov managed to create a product with a complex meaning that is interesting for both the ordinary and the experienced user. The result is a wristwatch that not only tells the time but also tells a story about the nature of space and time.

In recognition of its innovative design and functionality, the Artika Horizon was awarded Silver in the A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. The Artika Horizon certainly fits this description, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
